The importancce of sustainable business

Every day, companies all over the world generate economic, social and environmental value by making the resources provided by their natural environment relevant. To secure their future, it is absolutely necessary that they contribute to the well-being of society in terms of sustainability and efficiency.

The world is changing and the business sector is obliged to change with it, as both customers and society in general are increasingly aware of the importance of social commitments. In the midst of the energy crisis and with the threat of climate change looming large, companies need to consider sustainable policies and adopt a social and environmental commitment.

It is evident that more and more companies are giving importance to sustainability as a fundamental part of their business model, as it is this model that is changing business structures. Therefore, the application of sustainable actions in their practices will depend on their relationship with the environment and will provide the company with areas of opportunity, which perhaps until now had not been valued.

Panamar Bakery Group is aware of the urgency of immediately applying these business policies, which is why it has formalised its incorporation into Lean & Green, the European initiative coordinated in Spain by AECOC, for the decarbonisation of logistics, joining more than a hundred companies committed to efficiency and sustainability.

The first objective of this incorporation is to draw up a sustainable logistics plan and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its logistics processes by 20% over a maximum period of five years.

The implementation of the plan involves the implementation of precise methodologies for calculating the carbon footprint and includes decisive actions such as the use of cleaner energies, reduction of energy consumption in storage and transport and the optimisation of loading units and transport routes. The results will be evaluated by an external auditing company that certifies the achievement of these results, providing transparency and traceability for customers and collaborators.

In this way, Panamar Bakery Group assumes a commitment to continuous improvement that allows it to accelerate the transition towards a sustainable mobility model and achieve the objectives defined at the Climate Summit in Paris (COP21) contributing to the improvement of the environment and society.

Companies that are part of Lean & Green have reduced emissions from their logistics activity by 30%.

Since its launch in 2017, the companies that are part of Lean & Green have achieved an average relative saving of 30% in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions derived from their logistics activity. This is confirmed by the results audit of the project led in Spain by AECOC.

The reduction of the environmental impact achieved by the Lean & Green companies audited has been produced taking into account that the logistics activity of the Lean & Green companies has grown by 20%.

Efficient actions to reduce emissions

The audit of the Lean & Green project also shows which initiatives are the most effective in reducing the environmental footprint of logistics activities. Thus, the companies in the project that have activated route optimisation strategies have achieved an average emission reduction of 21%.

The second most efficient action is the procurement of renewable energy, with which companies have managed to reduce their logistics emissions by 15%, while strategies for the optimisation of vehicle loading and the use of ultra-light platforms have led to an average saving of 8%.
