At PANAMAR BAKERY GROUP, we remain firmly committed to sustainable business practices to ensure continuous improvement in terms of environmental impact. The Group that is a member of ASEMAC (Spanish Association for the Bakery, Pastry and Frozen Dough Industry), has signed up the the pact for a “CIRCULAR ECONOMY” driven by MAPAMA (the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment) alongside MINECO (the Ministry of the Economy and Competitiveness).

Environmental training and awareness-raising is fundamental to promoting responsible environmental behaviour. Since the 2018 financial year, this training has focused on good practices and aspects such as energy efficiency and waste management. Due to their greater impact, this management has focused on manufacturing plants, in which monitoring indicators have been set out. In 2017, FRIMAR PANADEROS (Albuixech) obtained the ISO 50.001 “ENERGY CERTIFICATION SYSTEM” certification, having transferred the same management system to the rest of the manufacturing plants.
The company thus reaffirms its commitment to sustainability by driving measures to be energy-efficient and reduce the consumption of natural resources, in line with the SDG 12 of the Global Compact, and whose final aim is to achieve efficient management of natural resources in production

Sustainable use of resources
Our manufacturing and distribution processes depend upon using sources of electrical power and gas. Hence, we place special emphasis upon monitoring key energy consumption and waste management. The purpose is to analyse their efficiency, and thus to set periodic improvement targets that contribute to minimising their environmental impact. Reducing the consumption of electricity, gas, water, carbon dioxide and nitrogen per Kg of manufacturing is one of our annual targets.

Emissions, Discharges and Climate Change
Climate change is increasingly important, and is one of the greatest challenges we face. There is therefore a growing need to establish strategies and objectives that contribute to slow this global warming, in order to reduce CO2 emissions.
At PANAMAR BAKERY GROUP, we believe that the main options for dealing with climate change are centred around using new, more efficient technologies, as well as using renewable energies.
Road transport in Commercial Distribution presents risks and opportunities for efficient management of energy resources. On the one hand, management of the fleet of lorries is beginning to be reoriented towards selecting vehicles that use clean energies and, on the other, by increasing the percentage occupation of the volume transported compared to the maximum possible. It will thus become possible to reduce the impact of the emissions and to reduce the energy consumption per Kg of transported product.
At the manufacturing plants, combustion emission sources in boilers and furnace burners are fitted out and controlled. Monitoring and control tasks are carried out for each source, ensuring preventative and corrective maintenance of the emitting equipment.

At PANAMAR BAKERY we have implemented a Waste Management Plan at the Production Plants. The waste from the process is reused as raw material to manufacture fodder for livestock; 100% of it is reused. The rest of the waste generated is traceably managed by authorised companies.

Environmental Issue Investment Projects
Our most recent investment projects, to make energy consumption more efficient at manufacturing plants, as well as to reduce the impact of waste and wastewater generation have included:
- Projects that involve reducing packaging waste.
- Projects that involve the use of coolants that are not harmful to the environment: All the refrigeration facilities executed use coolants that respect the environment, such as NH3 and CO2.
- Projects that mean reducing the generation of waste in the production processes themselves
- Projects that involve reuse as energy of the residual heat of facilities, which reduces the consumption of gas and, therefore, of emissions into the atmosphere.
- Projects to cooperate with entities linked to environmental conservation.
