Pacfren (Panificadora Ampuria Brava) is a company with strong roots in Catalonia.
The Cullell family’s original company was founded in 1975 at Castelló d’Empúries, and in 2001 it moved to Vilamalla (Girona), where it occupied an area of 22,000 m2. The owners, NarcÃs Cullell and his children, were descendants of Joan Cullell, who started the family’s adventure in this sector in 1862. To begin with, they made fresh bread, but in the 90s they entered the frozen dough market due to its multiple advantages. Since then PACFREN, has had a great track record; in 2004, it doubled the 2000 results.

In 2006, it was purchased by the Martinez family through Grupo Panstar. The idea of this purchase arose from the Cullells’ need to combine to make the major investment that has been carried out in recent years, since only in 2005 investment exceeded 7 million euros. Besides exploiting the synergy between the two companies, the other requirement is that the MartÃnez family was committed to retaining the same commercial policy and the same staff. Respecting the company’s principles and values at all times, alongside the significant investment made in technology, has been the key element that has allowed Pacfren to continue to grow and consolidate in the area.

Today, at the Vilamalla production facilities there are 10 bread production lines, 4 of them automatic, specialising in making white bread, in baguette or half-baguette format, and 6 semi-automatic lines for artisan or rustic bread. A cold store with capacity for 2,800 pallets and more than 40,000 tonnes of manufacturing.

Saving water consumption, energy, raw materials (cardboard, plastic, etc.), gas emissions, etc. are fundamental actions in which Pacfren is involved in order to care for the environment.
According to its founder, the process of modernisation and expansion of the company "is a commitment to quality". The company is not only dedicated to frozen bread, as it also produces baked bread, which it sells in a network of 15 of its own shops in the province of Girona.
