Celebrate World Food Day with bread
World Food Day is held every 16 October. A date that focuses, once again, on the importance of maintaining a balanced diet, which should always include bread.
Many and various have been the myths associated with bread. Information about the most important food in the development of mankind, and which show, today, the importance of his food in the Mediterranean diet.
Scientific studies support this. Contrary to the false legend that bread makes you fat, in the report on the ‘Influence of bread consumption on weight status: a systematic review’, the opposite is evident: a diet rich in bread, especially if it is wholemeal bread, promotes weight loss and a lower waist circumference and BMI (Body Mass Index). The study’s conclusions are therefore firm and clear: it’s important to include bread, as well as cereal, in any type of diet, since it plays a key role in protecting health.
Not only that: sometimes the mistaken belief that eating bread is negative makes people choose other products that are more processed and richer in fat, saturated fat and cholesterol, and which provide more calories and lower nutrient density. The person explaining this is Ángeles Carbajal, of the Department of Nutrition of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Complutense University of Madrid, who in her article on the ‘Importance of daily bread consumption for health’ recounts the benefits of bread in terms of nutrition: its plant proteins; its fibre (especially if it’s wholemeal), which is key to digestive health; its complex carbohydrates, which help improve the diet’s caloric profile; its low fat and no cholesterol; its vitamins and minerals; and its various bioactive and antioxidant components. There’s no doubt about it: to consume bread is to be a winner.
With 16 October, the date on which World Food Day is celebrated, in mind, it’s a good idea to heed all this date and stand up, once more, for the importance of bread. Therefore, if you have a cafeteria or bakery or catering establishment, you should know that having bread is essential, since it’s a food that’s also important for both children and for adults.
How to ensure you have high quality bread in your business? Easy: with frozen dough. Frozen doughs for catering or frozen doughs for bakeries allow you to have various types of bread comfortably, simply, easily and, above all, tastily. Frozen pre-baked bread, be in no doubt, is a safe bet for your establishment.
Different options for all tastes
There are many types of bread, something that, without a doubt, adds up. For example, some studies, such as the Nutrimedia project, highlight the fact that science favours wholemeal bread specifically over white bread to prevent excess weight. And it will be for wholemeal breads: you’ll never tire of offering them, since you’ll be able to have many types of bread thanks to the qualities of pre-baked bread.
The 100% Wholemeal Loaf, for example, is made using 100% wholemeal flour and natural sourdough, which gives it 3 times more fibre than white bread. If your customers are, on the other hand, lifelong loaf lovers, that’s no problem, since you can also offer a 100% Wholemeal Loaf. Did you know that wholemeal flour also lends it a darker colour, a denser crumb and a more intense flavour? All advantages. Other wholemeal formats available include the appetising baguettes or the sandwich format.
16 October marks World Food Day, but you can eat healthily and enjoy at all times. Don’t forget it.
